The Ministry of Education has extended the application deadline for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for the 2026-27 academic year to September 30, 2026. Eligible students can submit their applications through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). As of August 31, 2026, the portal had received 79,398 fresh applications and 1,87,208 renewal applications.
Students who have already submitted their applications must ensure that the applications are verified by the concerned authorities. Level 1 verification by the Institute Nodal Officer must be completed by October 15, 2026, while Level 2 verification by the District Nodal Officer has a deadline of October 31, 2026. The NSP has accepted applications for the current academic year since June 1, 2026.
The NMMSS provides one lakh fresh scholarships every year to eligible Class 9 students. Selected students receive Rs 12,000 per year, and the scholarship can continue through Classes 10 to 12, subject to academic performance. The scheme applies to students studying in state government, government-aided, and local body schools.
Eligibility includes an annual parental income of up to Rs 3.50 lakh and at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade in Class 7 for appearing in the selection test. SC and ST students receive a 5% relaxation in the minimum marks requirement.
