Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has now been appointed as the national coordinator for the SWAYAM platform for all Institutes of National Importance (INIs) across India. This new responsibility allows BHU to supervise the creation, delivery, and quality assurance of online courses offered by more than 160 premier institutions.
The university already has a strong presence on the SWAYAM platform. It has successfully developed 37 courses and plans to release 63 more by July 2025. As national coordinator, BHU will play a key role in setting academic standards and ensuring course relevance and accessibility. The initiative aims to enhance digital learning and expand access to quality education through Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).
Officials from the Ministry of Education state that BHU’s academic expertise and digital readiness make it well-suited for this role. The university is expected to foster collaboration between institutions and help align online course offerings with current educational and industry needs.
