The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released an official advisory on anti-ragging ahead of the new academic session. All colleges and universities across India have been instructed to strictly enforce anti-ragging measures and submit their compliance reports.
According to the advisory, institutions must constitute anti-ragging committees and squads, display helpline numbers prominently on campus, and conduct orientation programs to educate students about the legal and academic consequences of ragging.
UGC also urges institutions to take a zero-tolerance approach toward any act of physical or psychological harassment. Every institution is required to fill out a compliance affidavit on the official anti-ragging portal and ensure that students and parents submit their own undertakings online.
The advisory highlights the importance of safe and inclusive learning environments and warns of strict action, including derecognition of institutions, in case of non-compliance.
